Life’s a
Circus
a pop-up exhibition in downtown Charleston, April 2025
Throughout 2024, I was repeatedly inspired by circus imagery and themes. I began to sketch, brainstorm and create a body of work revolving around these impulses. I was eventually able to schedule a showcase that fell on my 40th birthday, what a great excuse to celebrate!
Only after I had been working towards this project for several months did it occur to me I have been here before. My mom threw a circus for my very first birthday, complete with elephant rides and live animal performances (aka aunts and uncles in costume)
I’ve been obsessed with paint and color my entire life, so it made sense to celebrate turning 40 with an exhibition. “Life’s a Circus” was an ode to color, paint, process and material; the tools that have been my constant comfort throughout all life’s lessons.
